The Claremont Graduate University Art Department is pleased to announce an exhibition exploring the program’s history through its alumni in the context of installation.
The first show in this series, Physical Presence (A Dialog with Residual and Surrounding Space), examines ideas of installation as a category and medium of art making as well as a lens to view art—ranging from projection and sound, to light and space, to sculptural and two-dimensional interaction within the institution. In addition to the materiality of installation, the exhibition also addresses the complicated space of the residual, whether that be individual or collective. The 12 artists featured in the exhibition are CGU Art alumni representing a wide variety of backgrounds who have exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally. The show will move from the front of the building, to the two main galleries and end in the atrium.
